裏路地 in 大館／ROJIURA SOMEWHERE IN OODATE

JR東日本 花輪線 東大館駅
20時32分、盛岡方向 上り発着、
20時56分、大館方面 下り発着がこの駅の最終便だ。
東北地方、秋田県の北部で青森と接する街、大館市。ここはそんな大館市の市役所を有する『東大館』。
日中に観光すれば一通り見終えてしまえるこの街に、わざわざ宿泊する人は、どうしても外せない用事がある人たちだけだろう。
ビジネスホテルはいくつかあるので泊まろうと思えば泊まれるが、目を引くナイトマーケットはなく、
ましてや朝市のような賑わいもないため、観光目的で宿泊する動機はどうしても弱くなる。
これが、観光資源の少ない、ごくありふれた地方都市の現実だ。
かつて近くの鉱山が開山したことで鉄道網が整備され、人口が増加し発展した大館の街。
道路は広く、かつて街が大きく栄えていたことが、今も随所に垣間見える。
昔は、夜が終わらないほど煌びやかな歓楽街が広がっていたのだろうと思わせる街並みが、今もわずかに残っている。
終電の後、この街に関わりのある者だけが見ることができる││年々姿を消していく夜の街の灯りを、記録した。

will be the last train at this station.
In the northern part of Akita Prefecture, facing Aomori, lies the town of Ōdate. This is “HigashiOdate” where Odate City Hall is located.
A place where daytime sightseeing can a be wrapped up in a single afternoon,
it’s the kind of town where only those with unavoidable business choose to stay overnight.
There are a few business hotels, so staying is certainly possible, but there are no eye-catching nightmarkets,
and not even the bustle of a morning market. It’s hard to find a compelling reason to spend the night here as a tourist.
This is the reality of a typical regional city with few tourist attractions.
Ōdate once flourished due to the opening of a nearby mine, which led to the development of railway networks and a growing population.
Its wide roads still hint at a past when the city was more vibrant.
There are still traces—just a few—of a townscape that suggests a nightlife so dazzling it seemed the night would never end.
After the last train has gone, only those with ties to this place witness the fading lights of its
night streets—flickers that disappear more and more with each passing year.
I have captured those lights, before they vanish completely.
